Demiris/Rice Advertising (DRA) has operated as a full-service advertising/marketing and public relations agency since 1952. During its 50 year history the agency has continuously served both national and regional clients located in major western markets including Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Denver, San Francisco, Boise, Reno and Las Vegas, among others. Robert Olson purchased the agency from Chris Demiris and Bill Rice in 1991 and two years later Marilynn Olson joined the agency as co-owner and vice president.

Together Bob and Marilynn, and their staff, have provided strategic advertising, creative services and media buying for their clients in

the public, as well as private sector. Bob and Marilynn are seasoned advertising professionals with nearly 50 years combined experience, including 22 years with Demiris/Rice.

The proof is in the results. With vast experience in all facets of advertising for media analysis, planning, buying and post-buy analysis, Demiris/Rice has effectively and judiciously managed advertising budgets for clients time and again.

Robert L. Olson
President & Co-Owner
Robert L. Olson is president and co-owner of Demiris/Rice Advertising, Inc., a full service advertising/marketing and public relations company doing business nationwide for 50 years. He bought the business from the original owners in 1990.

Bob has enjoyed a varied advertising career, including advertising management positions in the eastern United States with Bausch & Lomb, Inc. and Schoenback Advertising, as well as western-based companies including Milo Baughman Design, Golnick Advertising and the Collett Agency. His credentials include writing


and producing radio and television commercials for a variety of clients, all phases of print and outdoor creativity, as well as direct account management.

For the past 17 years, Bob has gained extensive, in-depth knowledge of the trucking and transportation industry, supervising all advertising, marketing, driver recruiting and public relations services for Salt Lake City based C.R. England, Inc., a major refrigerated trucking company serving all 48 States, Canada and Mexico.
Marilynn Olson
Media Supervisor, Vice President
Marilynn Olson says “What I do is I-deal.” And, she has been enjoying media planning and buying for the last twenty-plus years. Her experience is varied and vast. She is very well versed in the complexities and intricacies of media analysis, planning and buying.

Currently, Marilynn plans and buys broadcast and print in many major, mid and small size markets throughout the U.S. No stranger to aggressive negotiating, Marilynn has been able to achieve “more holler for the dollar” for many clients. Some current clients include C.R. England Trucking, SuperMall of the Great Northwest, Napa Valley Transportation Planning Agency, and Salt Lake Research. For sixteen years Utah Transit Authority benefited from her strong planning, negotiating and buying skills for all their media advertising needs, including all bus advertising, their Rideshare program, as well as the unveiling and grand opening of TRAX, the new Salt Lake light rail system. Additionally, Marilynn was the media planner and buyer for CalTrain, the commuter link between Gilroy and


San Francisco, California and SamTrans, the bus system in San Mateo County, California.

Prior to developing a media division for Demiris/Rice Advertising, Inc, a company she co-owns with her husband in Salt Lake City, Marilynn was Senior Media Planner/Buyer for ten years at FJCandN (now called Richter 7), a large advertising agency in Salt Lake City. Before their merge with FJCandN, she was Media Director for five years at et al, inc., another major Salt Lake City advertising agency.

A life in Baltimore preceded the move to Utah in 1983, where Marilynn received her education academically and experientially through Loyola College and many years in the advertising agency business.

Marilynn keeps life in balance by spending leisure time at a loom, creating hand-woven items and enjoying the benefits of a second home and sailboat in northwest Washington State.
Jon Miles
Art Director
Jon Miles is a creative department in one person. From the first step to the finished product, Jon's work is successful in getting attention. He consistently utilizes available resources to achieve maximum results.

Fresh from school in 1986, Jon took an entry position in the creative department at Demiris/Rice Advertising. Within six months he moved his way up to Art Director. He has worked with an impressive variety of clients since then. His work ranges from campaigns for Williamsburg Savings Bank, advertisements for Masseys Jewelers, many logo designs for businesses and products, to brochures for numerous high-tech corporations. For more than 14 years, Jon's produced hundreds of eye-catching nationwide



& local classified display ads for clients such as Franklin Covey and C.R. England Trucking. Whether the ad is placed in the South Bend Tribune or the Wall Street Journal, he makes sure the ad will stand out and be read. Classifieds by their very nature require a speedy turnaround and Jon has not missed a deadline in 14 years.

All in all, Jon is adept at translating a client's vision into a very effective visual advertising message. Upon tracking response results of C.R. England's ads versus those of their competition, it's been documented that England's ads have twice the response at half the cost. He doesn't need a signature on his work with results like that.
Jodi Westbye
Account Manager/Senior Media Planner/Buyer
Jodi Westbye is involved in all aspects of Recruitment Advertising from classified newspaper to internet advertising. She manages the Internet Advertising department for Demiris/Rice. She researches websites and search engines, negotiates contracts, designs advertising profiles and banners, monitors impressions, and refreshes client’s job postings. Jodi coordinates with the graphic designer to design ads that will convert hits to results. She implements key word tests, calculates click-through rates, tracks cost per hire, and cost per lead. Jodi is skillful at directing creative e-mail campaigns. Additionally, Jodi is a strategic broadcast and print media planner and buyer. She has used her skills to efficiently create and implement spot market grand opening media for Franklin Covey in many large and small metros throughout the U.S.

Jodi has been with Demiris/Rice for over four years; she is familiar with all aspects of the


business and is focused on getting results. She enjoys the process of researching and planning for a client’s advertising needs to ensure optimum results. Jodi is a “big picture” thinker who enjoys cultivating new ideas while maintaining current projects.

Jodi is also the business manager for President/Owner Robert Olson. Everyone at Demiris/Rice relies heavily on Jodi’s managerial abilities, organizational skills and advertising/business expertise.

When not at Demiris/Rice Advertising, Jodi runs her own home-based direct sales business selling Cookie Lee Jewelry in addition to spending time with her family. Her favorite pastime is the enjoyment just being with her husband Nick, 3 year old son Ayden, and Gator, their Labrador retriever.

Karolee Stevens
Recruitment Advertising Specialist
Karolee Stevens specializes in classified recruitment advertising; placing ads in print media nationwide. Her expertise includes implementing advertising campaigns by submitting insertion orders, tracking budgets, proofreading ad copy, checking tearsheets and verifying publication. She participates in headline and copy development, researches print media, and negotiates contracts. She is skilled at copy writing and proofreading.

Karolee believes it is essential to provide excellent customer service. Mediation certification gives her the tools needed to work closely with clients and media representatives. She developed outstanding research, writing, reasoning, and problem solving skills while obtaining an associate degree in business/paralegal studies at Mountain West College.



Karolee’s advertising career began in radio. She has worked in every aspect of radio broadcast including copy writing, production, news, and even local talk show host. She has accumulated over 20 years advertising experience in radio, daily newspaper, weekly classified paper/magazine, and yellow pages.

Karolee spent eight years at the Nifty Nickel Pioneer Shopper in St. George where she participated in every aspect of the paper including layout, production, and distribution and was responsible for one third of the paper’s revenue. As Advertising Sales Manager she developed media kits, marketing proposals, trained employees, and maintained accounts.
